Day 9 – Dedicated to Alex

Today’s 68.4 mile ride from Holy Island to Whitley Bay is dedicated to one of our forum members, Alex. Alex is a young man whose life is blighted by OCD, so today we will dedicate these 68 miles to our friend Alex.

Alex shared a few words about his OCD.

My OCD isn’t the normal, typical OCD. Whilst the thoughts might be similar to others about feeling like I’ve done something wrong, my compulsions aren’t the usual. In order to cancel out these bad thoughts I have to clean my car, mow the lawns, empty the bins, dust, hoover, mop the floor, clean the bathroom, charge all electrical devices and generally ensure everything is clean and hasn’t been used in my eyes. I’ve managed to cut down considerably thanks to CBT and medication, before that I used to restore my PC and iPhone back to factory settings and delete all my emails and make new accounts- this used to take a week as well as everything else. A big thanks to OCD-UK for all their support during the hard times.

Ashley Fulwood is an OCD sufferer fighting back. He is also the chief executive of the national charity, OCD-UK.
